Nigella Seeds, also known as Kaloongi, black cumin or black onion seeds, are apart of the Ranunculaceous family. The seeds have a peppery, toasted onion flavour that is slightly bitter but when roasted the flavour becomes sweeter.
Nigella seeds are extremely versatile, they can then be added to many savoury recipes or spice mixes. They are used in or on flatbreads and are great in crackers, bread, and savoury scones or muffins. Great for sprinkling over soups, salads or vegetables, and stirring through couscous or saffron rice.
